PHTC 1001 Pharmacology I 46 Hours
This course is designed to help the pharmacy technician student understand the technician’s role in the workplace and the principles of pharmacy practice. The lectures and modules will include drugs and all aspects pertaining to their use and pharmacy measurements and calculations. We will also discuss retail and institutional practice settings and all that they encompass. Three exams are given as a part of this course.
PHTC 1002 Legal and Ethical 36 Hours
This course will prepare the pharmacy student in all aspects of law as it pertains to the medical field. Modules include: administrative law, HIPAA, end of life issues, ethics, bioethics, and a comprehensive review of pharmacy acts and rules as they currently stand. Upon completion of this class the student should be prepared to take the State Laws and Rules Exam, as required for licensure. The student will be required to complete a law packet as part of class time.
PHTC 1003 Pharmacology Lab 10 Hours
In the lab setting we will learn about sterile production, extemporaneous compounding, IV Admixture, chemotherapy, dispensing of medications, and unit dosing. This will be hands on training. There will be a math review with each lab.
PHTC 1011 Pharmacology II 46 Hours
This course is designed to help the pharmacy technician student understand disease states and the drugs to treat them. Body systems and functions will be studied. The student will learn the top 200 drugs – brand name to generic – and will review all math in previous classes. Three exams are given as a part of this course.
PHTC 1012 Comprehensive Review 22 Hours
This consists of eleven packets (2 hours) each of review materials completed by the student. This course is designed to help prepare the students for the National Exam.
PHTC 1021 Pharmacology Externship 200 Hours
This involves a 200 hour clinical externship to be divided between retail and institutional practice settings. The student will not be paid for this work. Externs will be evaluated as students, and students will evaluate their experience and the program. After this course is completed the student will be ready to begin the licensure process.
