These classes provide a complete overview of information needed for successful planting and maintenance of various types of trees, shrubs, and plants in Southern Utah. The series consists of seven different classes.
The information is geared for professional landscapers, contractors, and people working in landscape-related businesses. The do-it-yourself person who really wants to be well-informed on proper planting techniques is welcome to enroll. The classes are also helpful in determining what you need to know and what questions to ask a professional before beginning any landscaping project.
Classes taught at the Dixie Applied Technology College and Plantworld Nursery are limited to the first 25 registered participants. Continuing Education Credits are available.

1. Planting for Success/Identifying What Grows Well
In this introductory class we will look at approved planting methods for trees and shrubs. Discussions will include soil preparation and fertilization, also identifying plants that are adapted to Southern Utah. Plants will be categorized based on intended use in the landscape.

2. Intro To Landscape Design
Learn the steps and principles of landscape design and Xeriscape. Information and tips are presented for the do-it-yourself landscaper as well as for the homeowner looking to be more informed and prepared when talking to landscape contractors. This hands-on class will give you the opportunity to ask questions and get ideas specific to your own property. It is recommended that you bring a rough sketch of your property with you to the class.

3. Basic Landscape Irrigation
Using the plans you have, this class walks you through the irrigation system beginning at the street and working inward, discussing each step needed to have a proper and efficient irrigation system.

4. Plant and Irrigation Layout

5. What's Eating You?
The common plant diseases and insect problems in the area will be discussed. You will learn proper diagnosis and treatments and be introduced to the concepts of Integrated Pest Management.

6. Grounds Maintenance 101 - How, When, & Who? Part one
This course covers the proper and effective techniques and tools used in maintaining any landscape, including: proper mowing and trimming; pruning roses, shrubs, and small trees; adjusting clocks; landscape tools; fertilization techniques; sprinkler head adjustments and replacement.
